My Grandma's Story

My grandma was nine years old when she arrived in Brazil. She was born in Portugal. She arrived in Brazil in 1952, and the journey took one week.
Her family decided to immigrate because the government was doing bad things to the country. She travelled with her brother and with her mother. She left her grandparents and her pet dog behind. She was feeling very sad.

São Paulo’s famous buildings !!!!!!

The “Farol Santander” (former Altino Arantes Building) was inaugurated in June 1947. It was the tallest building for 13 years (1947-1960). It is 161 metres tall, there are 36 floors and 14 elevators. Something interesting about “Farol Santander” is that it was called “BANESPÃO” or “BIG BANESPA”. It was closed for a very long time, but it was reopened in 2018.

My Grandpa

My grandpa was born in São Paulo on 23 August 1928, on the Southwest coast of Brazil. He was from a Portuguese family. He had three brothers and two sisters.

He went to Elementary School in a neighborhood called Brás. He left school after 4 years.

He went back to school when he was nineteen. He used to like studying and reading, specially about Science.

On 1 June 1963, he married my grandmother (his cousin). They had two daughters (one of them is my mother).

He used to work in a Pharmacy before working with his dad and brothers. They had a company that produced machines to make shoes.
In his free time, he used to read National Geographyc magazines, and science books. He also loved to work in his garden and fix his car.

He died of cancer on 27 August 1992.

If I had the chance I would like to meet him.

Home and Way

There are always special things-good and bad-which make countries different from each other.

HOME-BRAZIL

Best:
Good food.
A very good rythm of music.

Worst:
The security in Brazil is very bad.
The life cost is very expensive.

AWAY-CANADA

Best:
The Canadians are nicer than the Brazilians.
The weather is good because it’s warm in Summer and in the Winter the cold is delicious!!

Worst:
The food is unhealthier than the food in Brazil.

Would you like to live in another country??

What My Family Eats

I live with my mom (51), dad (51) and my sisters (Sophie, 18, and Ella, 13). In my family we don’t like the same things. Some like meat, but others like soup. For breakfast, me and my sisters just drink milk. For lunch, I usually have meat, rice, beans and salad, and every Friday I have pasta for lunch. For dinner, we usually have the same thing that we have for lunch, but sometimes we eat soup. We rarely have our fast food night with hot dogs, esfihas and soda. On weekends we usually eat out. On special occasions like Christmas we usually eat turkey, but I don’t usually eat too much because I don’t like it, I save space for the dessert (ice cream with chocolate sauce).

What does your family eat?
